Budget airlines are known for swiftly discontinuing routes that fail to attract enough passengers to maintain profitability, and Avelo Airlines is no exception with its recent adjustments. The Houston-based ultra-low-cost carrier announced on Thursday that it will be cutting three routes from its schedule next month, including two that were only launched late last fall and one that hasn’t yet started.
Effective April 28, Avelo will cease nonstop flights from Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) to Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) in Florida. This service began on November 8, meaning it has only been operational for a few months.
On the same date, Avelo will also discontinue its flights between the small Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) in Central Florida and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) in New Hampshire, which commenced in late October.
Additionally, the airline has announced it will cancel its upcoming nonstop service from BDL to Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) in North Carolina, with the termination taking place on April 28 — even before the service is scheduled to begin next month.

Avelo was transparent about the reasons for these cuts, which were initially identified by Ishrion Aviation. A spokesperson conveyed to Flying Frugal, “These routes generated low demand, allowing us to better utilize our aircraft for new routes or additional frequencies in other markets.”

The suspension of Avelo’s Hartford-to-Daytona Beach route was not unexpected, especially after the airline reduced several flights from Hartford recently. Last month, Avelo indicated it was reassessing its strategy in Connecticut, where it has a significant presence at Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN). Moving forward, a representative stated that the airline would concentrate its domestic operations in New Haven and limit its services from Hartford to international destinations.
However, there is some positive news for the airline. Avelo recently announced a significant expansion plan, introducing 13 new routes, including 10 out of North Carolina. The airline launched a new base at Concord-Padgett on March 6 and has another base set to open at Wilmington International Airport (ILM) on April 3.
Additionally, executives informed Flying Frugal this month that the airline is gearing up to unveil details about its inaugural loyalty program later this spring, while plans for a cobranded credit card are expected to be revealed by late summer.
