Until June 26, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is offering a bonus of up to 70% on purchased miles, with prices starting at just 1.74 cents per mile. To take advantage, simply log in to the Alaska Airlines website and purchase your miles.

Given that these miles can be tough to earn, this sale could be a great opportunity to boost your balance for upcoming redemptions, particularly if you’re ready to book a valuable award flight with available space.

Let’s delve into the details of this promotion.

Promotions for buying points and miles can often vary, so your invitation may differ. Here’s a breakdown of the current tiered offer:

Miles Purchased Bonus Miles Price per Mile (including tax)
3,000 to 19,000 miles 50% 1.97 cents
20,000 to 39,000 miles 60% 1.85 cents
40,000 to 100,000 miles 70% 1.74 cents

This is one of the highest bonuses we’ve seen for Alaska miles. While the lowest rate is 1.74 cents, which is slightly above our June 2025 valuation of 1.5 cents per mile, this promotion could still be worthwhile.

You might get more than 1.5 cents per mile if you redeem them for premium classes on Alaska’s international partners, such as Cathay Pacific or Japan Airlines.

How Many Alaska Miles Can You Buy?

If you’re an MVP, MVP Gold, MVP Gold 75K, or MVP Gold 100K member, there’s no cap on the number of miles you can purchase annually. Non-elite members, however, can only buy up to 150,000 miles per year.

Note that the 150,000-mile annual limit for non-elite members excludes bonus miles. If you qualify for a 60% bonus and haven’t purchased or received any Alaska miles this year, you could buy 150,000 miles during this sale and get an additional 90,000 bonus miles for a total of 240,000 miles.

Keep in mind that the website allows a maximum purchase of 100,000 miles (excluding bonuses) per transaction. For larger purchases, you’ll need to split your order into two transactions.

Best Ways to Redeem Alaska Miles

In addition to Oneworld and Oneworld Connect partners, Alaska Airlines collaborates with various airlines such as Korean Air and LATAM. Notably, you can add a free stopover on many Mileage Plan awards.

With Alaska’s merger with Hawaiian Airlines, a unified loyalty program is expected to launch this summer. We’ll have to wait and see how this affects the Mileage Plan award chart. For now, the distance-based chart provides excellent options, with potential discounts available through the Global Getaways sale, running until June 30.

For example, a Flying Frugal staff member successfully helped friends book business-class flights from Tokyo for 75,000 Alaska miles plus $60 in taxes and fees.

By purchasing 45,000 miles with the 70% bonus, they each ended up with 76,500 miles, costing $1,330 after taxes—an impressive deal given that tickets typically cost over $4,000.

You could also fly business class from Chicago to London for just 55,000 Alaska miles and an $18 fee. That would cost about $1,035 with this promotion, compared to a cash price of over $2,738.

Additionally, booking a Starlux business-class ticket from Los Angeles to Taipei would cost 75,000 Alaska miles and $18, amounting to just $1,330 instead of $3,680 in cash.

What Credit Card to Use for Buying Alaska Miles?

Purchases for miles are processed by Points.com, not Alaska Airlines, meaning you won’t earn airline-specific bonuses with your credit card.

Instead, opt for a credit card that provides solid returns on everyday expenses.

Conclusion

While purchasing miles isn’t generally recommended without a purpose, if you have a trip planned and see award availability, this promotion could be a good chance to buy Alaska miles affordably.

If you’re not in immediate need of miles but are planning future travel, consider applying for an Alaska Airlines credit card to earn bonus miles. Also, remember that Amex Membership Rewards points can be transferred to Hawaiian Airlines and, by extension, to Alaska Airlines until June 30.
