Delta Air Lines is set to introduce its inaugural nonstop flight to South America from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).
Starting December 4, Delta will provide a daily service to Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima, Peru, running until January 25, 2026. The route will be operated using a Boeing 767-300ER.
This new Salt Lake City-Lima route simplifies travel for those heading south to explore Peru’s numerous attractions, including Machu Picchu and the Amazon rainforest, while offering northbound travelers easier access to Utah’s stunning mountains and national parks.
Travel Tip: Best times to purchase international flights.
The route not only enhances connectivity for travelers but also strengthens the relationship between Delta and its South American partner, LATAM. Lima serves as LATAM’s second-largest hub by departures, while Salt Lake City ranks as Delta’s fourth largest, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium. This opens up numerous one-stop connecting options, such as from Lima to Boise or Salt Lake City to Córdoba, Argentina.
It’s noteworthy that Delta’s second nonstop service to Lima comes from the expanding Salt Lake City hub rather than its larger hubs in Detroit or Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Paul Baldoni, Delta’s senior vice president of network planning, expressed excitement about the new route: “This is a major milestone for Delta and our customers in Salt Lake City and the Mountain West. With enhanced connectivity through our hub, we’re delighted to offer a faster, more convenient way to access Lima and other key South American cities.”
Salt Lake City airport officials anticipate that this route will present local travelers with around 30 new one-stop destinations in South America.
Since launching their partnership in 2022, Delta and LATAM have added several new routes between the U.S. and South America, including services from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to both El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, Colombia, and Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) in Santiago, Chile, as well as from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).
Additionally, the new long-haul route follows the opening of a new terminal in Salt Lake City designed to support Delta’s growth. Earlier this year, the airline also initiated a daily nonstop flight to Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul, South Korea.
