Imagine not merely waiting in line for a quick snapshot with Disney’s iconic heroes and villains or catching a glimpse of their onstage performances—but envisioning a world where you become part of their adventure… or, more fittingly, they become part of yours.
Disney Destiny embodies everything you cherish about Disney Cruise Line—think delectable rotational dining, stops at Disney’s enchanting Bahamian islands, and chances to meet beloved characters like Mickey, Minnie, Chip, and Dale.
However, after experiencing the three-night preview media cruise, I can confidently say it offers so much more.
The onboard experience is impressively immersive and interactive, reminiscent of the short-lived but unforgettable Star Wars Starcruiser experience, placing you in the heart of the story, albeit on a more accessible scale.
Here are my initial thoughts on Disney’s latest fleet addition, Disney Destiny, highlighting unique features exclusive to this ship that you won’t find on any of the other six in the fleet.
Villains Take Center Stage
With recent park expansions and offerings aboard this ship, Disney appears to be embracing its villainous side, and I’m all for it.
On Disney Wish, the inaugural ship in the new trio introduced in 2022, Cinderella reigns supreme, from the iconic glass slipper in the atrium to the color palette and artwork. It’s a stunning ship tailored for a princess.
In contrast, Disney Destiny presents a different kind of beauty that villains can truly claim as their own, enriched with a variety of themed spaces and interactions that make this vessel exceptionally unique.
You can witness Maleficent casting fiery spells, Cruella critiquing your fashion, and Dr. Facilier performing tricks, while Loki attempts to commandeer the ship, offering a captivating blend of entertainment that suits those of us who have transitioned from childhood to a more mature Disney experience.
Pride Lands Feast of the Lion King
Similar to other Disney ships, Disney Destiny features three main dining experiences that rotate with your serving team; however, the Pride Lands Feast of the Lion King is a brand new restaurant offering an exclusive dinner show just for this ship.
It’s not just new, it’s extraordinary.
While the “Frozen”-themed dinner show on Disney Wish is an enjoyable experience for kids, it’s refreshing to see a restaurant that offers a different vibe, providing something unique within the same space.
This new show delivers heart, emotion, authenticity, and introduces fresh flavors to the Disney Cruise Line dining experience. It’s a performance that could easily become a cherished memory of your sailing.
Three Unique Themed Bars and Lounges
I’m a fan of themed bars, and Disney Destiny offers three exceptional venues you won’t find on any other ship.
De Vil’s Piano Lounge
With its distinctive piano, catchy tunes, and inventive drinks, this is a must-visit. To fully enjoy the atmosphere, time your visit with Cruella’s appearance, and don’t miss out on ordering the “Perfectly Wretched” cocktail featuring whimsical garnishes.
Cask & Cannon
This Pirates of the Caribbean-themed pub is perfect for enjoying a beer while catching a game or snacking on a pretzel, especially if you have the late dinner seating.
The Sanctum
This lounge blends style and comfort while immersing visitors in the world of Dr. Strange. Here, you can order unique drinks like “floating” cocktails or “Mirror Dimension” drinks that light up with your touch.
A New Hercules Broadway-Style Show
Disney ships are known for their extravagant Broadway-style productions.
Instead of shelling out hundreds for Broadway tickets, enjoy high-quality entertainment at the Walt Disney Theater on various nights, included with your cruise package.
Currently, Disney Destiny features “Hercules,” offering a fresh take that includes beloved songs from the film, enriched with gospel and pop influences, brilliantly showcasing puppetry and technology.
This energetic, modern, and engaging show lasts 75 minutes and offers pure entertainment.
Marvel-Themed Grand Hall and More
The Disney Destiny is a haven for Marvel fans.
While all three of Disney’s recent Wish Class ships feature Marvel-inspired restaurants and kids’ clubs, Destiny uniquely embraces the Marvel universe from the moment you board, starting with the Wakanda-themed Grand Hall.
The Marvel theme continues throughout the ship, with captivating artwork and character interactions, alongside themed lounges like the Sanctum that reflect Dr. Strange’s world.
If you have a budget akin to Tony Stark’s, consider booking the Tower Suite, a two-story accommodation inspired by his character, sleeping up to eight guests across three luxurious bedrooms.
And not all Marvel offerings are geared toward kids; one of the ship’s nighttime shows, “With Great Power,” features a recorded appearance by the often R-rated Deadpool, which is for adults only.
Convenient Sailing from an Easy U.S. Port
Although not the first Disney ship to dock at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Destiny establishes a long-term residence there, making it one of the easiest ports to navigate.
Port Everglades is just two miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), with numerous hotels in the vicinity, including the fantastic Pier 66.
Many of Destiny’s upcoming voyages will last four to five nights, creating an ideal balance for families. While three-night sails feel too short for a full experience, five nights strike a perfect compromise of value and schedule.
Additionally, many itineraries will include Disney’s enchanting Bahamian islands—an ideal blend of fun in the “Disney Bubble.”
Final Thoughts
Having sailed on all seven Disney ships, I didn’t expect Disney Destiny to surpass my previous favorite, Disney Treasure. But this ship has charmed me with its unique villainous flair, and I eagerly look forward to returning with my family for even more mischievous adventures with Loki and his cohorts.
