JetBlue is intensifying its presence in South Florida by launching several new routes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) later this year.

The expansion, announced on Wednesday, brings back several international destinations, including some that JetBlue has never served before from Fort Lauderdale. Notably, Cali, Colombia will be a brand new addition.

When to Book: The Best Times for International Flights

As part of this expansion in the Sunshine State, JetBlue will also resume flights from FLL to Cartagena, Colombia; Aruba; Grand Cayman; and St. Maarten. Additionally, it will offer service to Guanacaste Province in Costa Rica for the first time. The airline is also increasing flights on nine other routes that include domestic, Mexican, Caribbean, and Central American destinations.

This is part of a series of expansions JetBlue has been implementing at FLL recently, reaffirming its commitment to the airport after scaling back operations in other regions of the country in 2024.

Targeting Competitor Spirit

The choice of routes for this expansion is particularly significant. JetBlue will overlap with its main competitor, Spirit Airlines, on 16 of the 18 new or returning routes announced. Spirit is currently facing financial troubles, being under Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year, which has led to cutbacks in its flight schedules.

While JetBlue did not address Spirit directly—having previously attempted to merge with them—it emphasized its strengthened position at FLL:

“As the leading airline at Fort Lauderdale, boasting more departures than any other carrier on peak travel days, JetBlue is committed to elevating the customer experience in South Florida,” stated Dave Jehn, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning and airline partnerships.
