The rail renaissance has been gaining momentum lately, and it shows no signs of slowing, particularly with Australia’s newly unveiled luxury train suites.
The Ghan Expedition, now celebrating its 96th year, operates one of the globe’s most legendary rail routes, journeying through vast outback landscapes from Darwin in the Northern Territory to Adelaide in South Australia.
These trains evoke a classic approach to adventure, free from distractions like Wi-Fi and TVs, enabling passengers to fully appreciate the premium amenities and breathtaking views.

With the launch of the new Aurora and Australis suites, travelers booking journeys for 2026 can now indulge in an elevated level of comfort.
The Australis Suite, the larger of the two, will be three times the size of the previous most luxurious option, the Platinum Cabin, while the Aurora Suite will be double the size.
Both suites come equipped with separate bedrooms featuring queen-size beds adorned with luxurious linens, premium Jurlique amenities, and in-suite bars stocked to guests’ tastes, complemented by Champagne Bollinger La Grande Annee available throughout the journey. Guests in either suite will also have access to the train’s Platinum Club lounge and dining carriage, plus in-room dining options.
Alongside these luxurious offerings, travelers can expect personalized butler service and exclusive chauffeur transfers for their arrival and departure from the train.
Designed in collaboration with the global design firm Woods Bagot, these suites showcase an art deco style that pays homage to significant moments in Australia’s pastoral history. Unique features include decorative wood, stone, and marble finishes; iron filigree; coved ceilings; and materials inspired by Australian industries, such as wool, sheepskin, and saddle leather.
Pricing for a three-day journey aboard The Ghan starts at $11,890 per person for the Australis Suite and $7,990 per person for the Aurora Suite. Reservations for trips from April 2026 are now open through Journey Beyond.
